Just a little sketch..

My grandson whilst on the train from Falmouth to Truro the other day..
I was just captured by his far away look and all I had was a tiny note book 10cm by 6cm.. Not an easy task for someone who likes to work on big bits of paper.

Sketching at Gyllyngvase Beach Cafe..

This morning our lovely Falmouth sketch club visited Gyllyngvase beach cafe, we had a different group leader this morning the lovely Clare.. First we did the usual quick sketches without taking pens from paper and.. Not looking at the paper.
Then longer sketch.. How a mussel shell can look like a skull when enlarged.. Love it.
Clare brought in flotsom and getsom from her walks along the local beaches, I chose a mussel shell and a cockle shell from her collection.

I prepared the paper last night with inks and gouache, glue and an old newspaper just for a little fun..

Drawing at the Falmouth Pavilion..

First off, a quick 2 minute sketch working around the sketch book. Love working this way..
Then the plants, I have no idea what this plant is called,
but it was like a lot of waggling tongues.
This is the base of it.. Charcoal this time. A bit of artistic license here happened, I think. Doesn't look quite right to me. Still learning after all these years.. Look and look again should be my motto.
Then looking up into the roof..
I'm in love, and will return many times to this wonderful place and it's gardens..

Sketchbook..

Latest drawings, Lanyon Quoit, yesterday on a windy road side...
No complaints the sun was shining..
These were done the other day when I visited St Michaels Mount.
I was fascinated by this gentle old man listening to the world going by..

My sketchbook...

We took our lovely friends to an evening of wonderful music at the
Trengilly Wartha Inn here in Constantine.
With a bottle of red and pen in hand, good company and music that was a joy, I sketched.
Drawing without looking at the page, the only way when people are moving and chatting..
I sometimes slipped up completely, when my glass needed filling..

I sketched the listeners and watchers, the musicians were too quick in movement for me to capture.. Less wine next time me thinks!

Falmouth sketch club.. Week 2

This week
welcomed us all to draw the new 'Art Masters' exhibition.

First sketch 2 minutes without looking at paper

Another 2 minute sketch without looking at the paper, boy this is painful. But I love the results, a way forward for me perhaps?

Next exercise 6 x 2 minute sketches
We had to look at the paintings, and produce a recognisable image with a few simple marks. I chose to look at the shapes. If you look at drawing no:6 it might give you an idea of what my second drawing should have looked like.
Our lovely Eve Bouratt is such a task master..

Lastly a 30 minute sketch, I chose a self portrait by Francis Hewlett, needs a little adjustment here and there but OK, quite a difficult task to draw a painting.

I've joined Falmouth Sketch Club .

Met the most amazing people, Was introduced to them all, and promptly forgot their names, except for the lady who runs it, Eve Bourrat and a lovely young girl called Lorna.
It was run as a series of quick exercises followed by a longer sketching session.
First 'lesson' 2 minutes sketching without taking pen off of paper..
Then another 2 minute sketch, this time the view out side, we could only use horizontal lines for this one. Note the obvious mistake, I instantly fell into doing it wrong! This would you believe is the view from the cafe.. Gyllyngvase beach. Please feel free to use your imagination.
Second 'lesson' divide the page in half draw the same thing, Lorna and I chose the ladies sitting opposite. My half is on the right and Lorna's is on the left..
Then a longer sketching session, about 15 or so minutes, once again I concentrated on the other artists sitting opposite. All deep in concentration.

Then a 10 minute sketch of the beach. The flags are for the surfers, life guards put them out on the beach to show where it's safe for the surfers to go out.. As you can see they were not in use today, not a wave or ripple in sight this morning.
My last quick sketch of the day.. What a great morning, so good to get my pens and pencils out and unpack a sketch book.
Falmouth Sketch Club link..

After all that hard work a leisurely walk around the charity shops of Falmouth.. There's treasure in them their shops, I say...  Another time.

Latest sketches.. & ... Papier mache..

On the bus sketching and jotting down ideas. Just wish I'd spelt Giacometti correctly, and the photograph is awful, just now in the kitchen under the lights.. Apologies.
Sketching at Firstsite the latest exhibition Nigel Henderson & Eduardo Paolozzi. Loved it best yet.
And... ... I have no idea, just a thousand going around in my head?

Sketches at the poetry reading

Last night Norman and I did something out of our comfort zone and went to our our first 'Poetry Wivenhoe' evening at the Greyhound, to hear Tobias Hill and Adrian May .. And... I remembered to take my sketchbook and pencil.. Hurrah!  Wonders will never cease.

So with a large glass of red wine in hand ...

I had forgotten how hard it was to do the two, three things at the same time, listen, drink and concerntrate on the drawing..  Hang on, I'm a girl I should be able to do this easily... Maybe it was the wine...
We had seen Adrian once before at a book signing, he was so funny, his observations are hilarious.. So that was the sprat that caught these two mackerel.. We had to hear him talk and sing once more... I think back in the day he must have been a travelling minstrel.
Adrian Hill was a revelation, for someone so young, his poetry was so beautiful, especially the one about his granddad.. He also read from his new book, by this time I was so tired, but desperate to hear his words.. The descriptive way he writes, and the gentle way he spoke captured me. I shall be ordering one of his books from the library today..
Here are a couple fellow listeners..

This young chap had such a sensitive mouth.. I've drawn his eyes a bit too close together, never mind it's all good practice.
 Loved this man's face....

A final one of Adrian..

So... When is the next meeting?.... We can't wait.
