'Megan - A postcard for Grumbledad'

Megan is a lovely new friend from Penryn, she is an artist and film maker and often shows her work at our lovely Fannie and Fox Gallery.. She has been corresponding with her granddad otherwise known as Grumbledad for the past five years. Many of their letters have included a small sketch.Which is how this all began.

To celebrate her granddad and their love for each other she has organized an exhibition of both their 'letters' in a delightful local cafe in Penryn called Howl.

So, Megan asked everyone to join in and create their own 'postcard' which will be sent to Grumbledad as a surprise..

Here is how I started, firstly it's on a bit of mount-board, which was the first thing that came to hand, the first sketch is a bit rough but it only took a couple of minutes.  I then painted over it in a clear gesso to seal the cardboard, the pencil lines still show through.. I then roughed out the painting in acrylics, sadly I forgot to take a photo at that point.

Then with the heat in my studio (yes the sun was shining unlike this morning) the acrylics were drying out far too quick so I decided to go over it in oils.. When it was dry, I cut it down to postcard size..

I gave it to Megan yesterday, and I'm happy to say she was thrilled.

Postcards

Just found this old 'draft' for a post, have no idea if you've seen it before?

They were from a postcard project I worked on with Barbara Morrison, an amazing artist from Colchester. Amazingly they survived the Royal Mail postal service.

This is what I made for my sweet Valentine..

An angel.. A postcard update .... And dates for Open studio's...

I have been working on a project which I'd tentatively started a few weeks ago, you might remember some little hand made dresses which I'd pinned to my notice board a few weeks ago that I called  developing wings . At the same time I met an artist called Barbara Morrison who asked me to help her with her MA by making two postcards for the project she was working on... Which I was delighted to take part in.  I continued to run with the theme which was developing, I called the post cards..'Lost children'   

The work has continued to develop... It's been very therapeutic as I've been trying to get my head around all the sadness that I've been struggling with.

'The sad angel' is all part of this work, she just needed to be made...

Postcard project update:  The 'Lost children' have arrived safely... Amazingly in one piece.. Good old Royal Mail..

These were the two I sent to Barbara and in return she has sent me...

There are so many layers to this piece, the photo does not do it justice.. I am so excited about how this project is going to develop.. I'll let you know as soon as I have any news.
