Mermaids rings.. And and the South West coastal path..

17 Years ago today I gave my husband a book.. 'Classic Walks, Cornwall'.
Yesterday Norman and I did the Rosemullion Head and Carwinion Valley walk, 5.3 miles of very muddy slippy slide'y hills and fields.. Better late than never. Although we have unwittingly done sections of the other walks in the book over the years.

We were so surprised to find spring violets in bloom along the footpath.
Looking up through the decaying giant gunnera leaves to the skies above..

Along the path someone had attached mermaid's rings to pieces of fishing net as a marker, reminded us of Hansel and Gretel and their bread crumb trail..

The rock formations along the beach were astounding..

We nervously walked through a field of cows this little beauty was very curious..
 The views were spectacular.
The ancient forest that goes down to the water at Mawnan Smith was magical.
Mermaids rings..
So now we have completed and  officially ticked off the first of our South West Coastal walks.

*Note to self.. Buy good walking boots and Nordic hiking poles..

  3. Well done Julie and Norman! Great pics. There was an interesting segment on Simon Schama's Face of Britain last night about Laura Knight and why she moved to Cornwall to be near the rest of the 'bohemian artists' who lived there. I will get there one day but I'm not bohemian and I'm not an artist, it just looks really nice. :-) Hope Bubba is doing well.

    1. Going to watch it on iPlayer Anne sometime this week. I actually have an original Laura Knight sketch which I brought at auction years ago for a song.. As for Maud, not too well at the moment, in fact too poorly to go to Bart's this week...Thanks for asking.x

  4. Looks like a wonderful walk - slippery slopes and all. Cows really aren't scary - you just have to watch out for the bulls. Cows are usually pretty docile creatures.

    1. There were older babies and the bull was in the field too.. I'm city born and still a little nervous.

  5. What a beautiful walk you both took. A bonding time I am sure, because nature always seems to have that effect on people. My husband and I have have a Hiking in Kansas book that we use to find pretty places to walk all over our state. There is one in particular that we love....Toronto Lake...woods and a small body of water....not grand like the waters you get to walk by...but lovely.

Thanks for sharing your experience Julie. Love the sweet cow...it's easy to see why so many people like to paint them.
