This one is much better than the one I've had since Christmas. After chatting to Nicole, my darling daughter, about printing onto felt and fabric over dinner, last night, I decided to get my finger out and give it a go. Not on felt, that's Nicole's thing, but on some quilters calico that I had hanging around.. As you do.
Our inspiration is a book that I borrowed from the library called Print-Stitch-Techniques... I love it, have a look... Print-Stitch-Techniques-Hand-printing-Stitching - Janet Edmonds
I have had all the 'stuff' for a long, long time but as always it got put on my to do list... Which I might say is as long as my arm. So one of my new years resolutions will be to tick some off of my incredibly long list....
I decided to try with a lino block of a stag beetle
Printed onto washed calico, I just need to give it a good press it to set the fabric ink. I shall definitely be doing this again... wish I'd tried it along time ago... I think I've got the bug...
What do you think?
I would love to hear from you, good or bad....Even if it's only to hear where I've gone wrong and how I could improve my print.
I like it! Printing your own could be loads of fun. I have a friend who draws designs on cloth and then embroiders tiny stitches all over - she makes the most amazing creations. I like yours plain but I can see many different versions of it. Print and then paint. Print and then bead. You could take it anywhere you wanted it to go!
ReplyDeleteYes! Please, more of this. Looks great!
ReplyDeleteLove your beetle! I enjoy your blog and think your art is wonderful.

Above is a link to a beetle I did a couple years ago in watercolor.. I think they compliment each other nicely.
I love your linocut!
I love it Julie, I am just about to start some block printing again, I havn't done any for several years....can you tell me where to get the inks, as I couldn't find them at the Knitting & Stitching show...and then forgot all about it...this is a great reminder.
ReplyDeleteAlso...I could do with some advice on my blog layout ( now I am back LOL) I can't seem to add anything down the sides, or get away from the template I used to start...any help would be great :o)
Hi Julie, looks great! I too did a stag beetle lino print last year-such amazing creatures! Amanda xx
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Julie!!
ReplyDeleteYour print looks awesome! How is that printing press coming along?
Very impressed with the stag beetle print and the machine stitched version. Sorry to hear about the cancelled workshop. That is a shame as printing is usually so popular.
