Alice

I have just finished re-reading Alice in Wonderland, I found an old copy in a local charity shop its pages are going yellow and it has that fusty smell that only comes with age, It cost me 20p/o.32 cents in the sale bin, how could anyone not want an old copy of Alice..

I can't remember how many times I have read the book, quite a few over the years no doubt, I still get lost in the story, it reminds me of being with my mum when I was little and watching the film (in black and white) and hearing it being read on childrens hour (BBC radio), magical times........

This reminded me of a doll and her friend that I made earlier this year, I had tucked them away in the studio cupboard, where they were waiting patiently to be rememberd. They must have felt like they were stuck in the rabbit hole all over again, dark and forgotton..

They are both made of calico and acrylic paint which has been rubbed back and painted many times this leaves the dolls feeling like soft leather.

  5. Hello! Thank you for your welcoming message...I thought I would reply on your blog.
I love these two dolls...the way you describe them feeling like soft leather is just brilliant. I can't wait to get started...I bought my clay yesterday. I'll be glad if mine turn out half as good as Madeleine and Miss Poppy Field!

  6. hi from carol,
Back home after 4 weeks helping my family. Enjoying relaxing and enjoying your site with no rush. Fascinated by your technique of acrylic and calico. Photographing flowers today on a coastal walk and inspired for my next doll. Take care x
